Slotted spring pins to DIN 1481 / ISO 8752 in the heavy series are split sleeves that hold themselves in a drilled seat by radial spring force, pinning components together, locating them or securing them axially. This category holds 357 versions in diameters from 2.5 to 10.0 mm and lengths from 10 to 70 mm.
Selection follows the nominal diameter of the receiving hole, the required length and the grade of steel. The heavy series is the thick-walled form, carrying a wall thickness of 0.50 to 2.15 mm according to diameter; it is supplied in bright steel as well as A2 stainless steel.
Spring pins of this type pin shafts, hubs and levers in machine building and jig construction, and they retain bolts against axial movement. They are driven into a drilled seat, where the split sleeve compresses against the wall of the hole. In drive engineering they act as driving pins, in tool making as locating pins for joints that get opened again.
