Button head socket screws to ISO 7380-1 have a flat domed head and build considerably lower than a socket head cap screw. The category lists 240 versions with threads from M 6 to M 12 and lengths from 12 to 45 mm.
Selection follows thread, length and material: zinc plated steel in property class 10.9 or stainless A4. The button head needs no counterbore, but carries less tightening torque than a cylindrical head of the same size because the hexagon socket is shallower.
Button head screws are fitted on covers, sheet metal panels and profile joints where the head stays visible and should not project. In jig and equipment building they are the choice when no counterbore can be machined. The stainless A4 version is used on wet plant and outdoor installations.
