Measurement, Monitoring and Leak Detection
Leak Detection and Sensor Cables
Leak detection reports escaping medium where it first arrives: in the raised floor under the pipe run, in the drip tray of a CDU, at the fitting above a rack. Sensor cables work along a line and localise the point on the route, spot sensors only report that liquid is present. Both feed an evaluation unit that raises the alarm in the building management system and, together with a shut-off valve, isolates the affected branch.
We currently list no items for this function. That is a gap, and it sits at a sensitive point: in a data centre a leaking fitting above a rack does more damage in minutes than the failure of a circulating pump. The category exists, the range is being built up. Until then only indirect signals remain: a falling level in the expansion vessel, a dropping charge pressure, or a level switch placed in the drip tray.

Detection Principles at a Glance
Detection principles and what is available today
| Principle | Detects | Spatial resolution | Available from us |
|---|---|---|---|
| Sensor cable | liquid along the pipe route | alarm with position along the cable | no, range being built up |
| Spot sensor | liquid at the mounting point | the mounting point only | no, range being built up |
| Level switch in the drip tray | standing liquid in the tray | the tray as a whole | yes, via level measurement |
| Level drop in the expansion vessel | loss of medium across the loop | none, the loop only | yes, via level measurement |
| Pressure drop in the loop | loss of medium across the loop | none, the loop only | yes, via pressure measurement |
Typical Applications
- route monitoring in the raised floor beneath supply and return lines
- drip trays under CDU, heat exchanger and pump set
- fittings and couplings above the rack row
- the transfer point between primary and secondary loop
- areas with direct liquid cooling where the medium runs close to electronics
