Shut-Off, Control and Safety Valves
Ball Valves and Shut-Off Valves
A ball valve opens or closes a cooling circuit in a quarter turn and leaves the full bore free, so it adds almost no resistance to the flow. This group holds 1,713 items: two-piece and three-piece stainless ball valves in 1.4408 CF8M, versions built to the DIN 3202-M3 face-to-face dimension, long-thread ball valves in nickel-plated brass, three-way ball valves with an L-port for switching between two circuits, socket gate valves in 1.4401/1.4408, and gauge isolation valves from Wika and Riegler.
Serviceability decides the design: a three-piece ball valve can be opened without cutting the pipe, a two-piece one is shorter and cheaper. Weld ends for 33.6 mm pipe outside diameter tie the valve permanently into the line, while threaded connections from G 1/8 to Rp/R 1 1/2 stay removable. Stainless steel is the safe choice in a water-glycol circuit; nickel-plated brass only where the rest of the circuit is copper alloy as well. Brands: Fluidics equipment, Riegler, Köly Deutschland, Wika, Sang-A and E.MC.

| Criterion | Two-piece ball valve | Three-piece ball valve | Socket gate valve | Gauge isolation valve |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Operating motion | quarter turn | quarter turn | several stem turns | quarter turn |
| Service in place | valve must be removed | centre section removable | stem can be retightened | instrument swap without draining |
| Materials in stock | stainless 1.4408, nickel-plated brass | stainless 1.4408 CF8M | stainless 1.4401/1.4408 | 1.4571, plain brass |
| Connections in stock | G 1/8 to Rp/R 1 1/2 | threads and weld ends 33.6 mm | G 1, DN 25 | G 1/2 with 40x5 clamping socket |
| Typical duty | isolate a riser | isolate and service a riser | shut off a main line | isolate an instrument |
Typical applications
- Isolating single rack rows, cooling manifolds and CDU connections before service work
- Switching to a redundant supply line through three-way ball valves with an L-port
- Drain and fill points at the low points of the water-glycol circuit
- Isolating gauges, pressure switches and sensors for calibration and replacement
- Break points upstream and downstream of pumps, filters and heat exchangers
- Welded-in isolation points in main lines where threaded joints are not wanted
