Mounting and Cable Management
Cable Glands and Grommets
Cable glands and grommets take cables, pipes and hoses through enclosure walls, control cabinets, raised floor tiles and room partitions without losing tightness. In the cooling loop of a data centre they do two jobs: they keep moisture, condensate and escaping coolant on one side of the wall, and they relieve the entry mechanically so that no tensile load reaches the terminal. The range for this category is currently being built up, so no items are listed yet.
Selection rests on the cable outside diameter against the clamping range of the seal, the thickness of the wall or panel and the material. Polyamide, PVDF, PP, PE and stainless steel are unrestricted in a water glycol loop, and EPDM works as a sealing material. Brass only comes into question with a single material pairing, while galvanised steel and aluminium are ruled out. Specific sizes can be clarified from the supplier programme.

How to choose Cable Glands and Grommets
What matters when choosing: properties, comparison and typical applications.

Designs and selection criteria
Types of entry and what governs the choice
| Design | Function | Materials for an IT loop | Selection criterion |
|---|---|---|---|
| Cable gland with sealing insert | sealed entry for a single cable | polyamide, PVDF, stainless steel | cable outside diameter within the clamping range |
| Gland with strain relief | takes tensile load at the entry | polyamide, stainless steel | permissible tensile force, bend protection |
| Grommets and membrane entries | passage without a threaded hole | EPDM, polyamide | panel thickness and hole diameter |
| Cable entry plate | several cables through one wall opening | EPDM with stainless frame | number and diameter of the cables |
| Pipe and hose entry | passage through floor, wall or raised floor tile | stainless steel, PP, PE | tightness against escaping coolant |
Typical applications
- sensor and control cables entering cooling system control cabinets
- coolant pipes passing through raised floor tiles
- wall penetrations between plant room and IT room
- sealing openings at distribution units and pump stations
- retrofitting additional cables in existing enclosures
