Pipes and Piping Systems
Piping and Connection Technology
Pipe and piping systems form the rigid part of the installation, wherever hose no longer carries the load. 712 references cover drawn stainless tube to DIN EN ISO 1127 with 4 to 12 mm outside diameter and 1 to 2 mm wall in grades 1.4301, 1.4541 and 1.4571, copper pipe up to 42 mm rated from -1 to 34 bar, PEXa pipe in cross-linked polyethylene supplied in 5 m lengths, and the straight connectors, elbows and end caps of the »sharkbite« slip-fit system for 22 to 54 mm pipe outside diameter.
The choice of pipe material is already the system decision. Stainless and PE-Xa can be used in the water-glycol loop without restriction and connect via compression ring, weld-on union or push-in fitting. Copper and its matching brass connectors belong only in a loop built entirely in copper; as soon as stainless, galvanised steel or aluminium share the same water, copper is the wrong choice. The small sizes up to 12 mm serve mainly measuring and tapping lines.
Sizes, jointing method and suitability for the IT loop
| Pipe material | Sizes in stock | Jointing method | Use in the IT loop |
|---|---|---|---|
| Stainless 1.4301, 1.4541, 1.4571, drawn | outside diameter 4, 10 and 12 mm, wall 1; 1.5 and 2 mm | compression union, weld-on union | unrestricted |
| Copper | pipe up to 42 mm, -1 to 34 bar | slip coupling, soldering | single-metal copper loops only |
| PE-Xa, cross-linked polyethylene | pipe 25 mm, 5 m lengths | compression and press fittings | unrestricted |
| Polyethylene, line connectors | for 5 to 7 mm hose bore | push-in and compression connectors | unrestricted |
| Brass, »sharkbite« connectors | pipe outside diameter 22, 35, 42 and 54 mm | slip fit | copper loops only |
- Rigid secondary pipework between coolant distribution unit, pump set and manifold level
- Measuring and tapping lines of 4 to 12 mm outside diameter to pressure and temperature transmitters
- Retrofit and repair of existing copper lines without an open flame
- PE-Xa supply runs on routes with tight changes of direction
- Fill and drain runs at the low points of the installation
