Selection follows the thread size, the shank length and the material: plain or zinc plated steel in property class 8.8, plus stainless steel A2 and stainless steel A4. The low head reduces the build height above the component face, while the hexagon socket allows tightening inside counterbores and narrow pockets.
Low head cap screws are bolted into jigs, fixtures and tooling when the head must stay inside the contour of the part. In machine building and drive engineering they hold covers, flanges, clamping blocks and stop bars at points that allow only a shallow counterbore.
