Screw-on hose tails with a fixed female thread join a rubber or fabric hose to the male thread of a fitting, valve or pipe run. The hose is pushed onto the serrated shank, then secured by a clamp. The range covers 70 versions for hose inside diameters from 6 (1/4") to 38 (1-1/2") mm at working pressures up to 40 bar.
Two dimensions govern the choice: the inside diameter of the hose, plus the thread size from G 1/8" to G 1-1/4". The female thread is formed on the tail body itself, so it is a rigid design rather than a swivel union nut, which means the tail turns while it is screwed on. Materials available are brass, nickel plated brass as well as stainless steel 1.4571.
Determine hose size separately from thread size: the shank follows the inside diameter of the installed hose, the female thread follows the male thread on the equipment. The two values often differ, for example G 3/8" served by a 6 (1/4") mm hose as well as G 3/8" served by a 13 (1/2") mm hose. Hold the hexagon, 12 to 55 mm across flats, so that no torque passes into the hose while the joint is tightened.
Compressed air installations in workshops as well as production halls, where hose lines meet compressors, air service units plus distribution rails. Also on water lines, cooling circuits in machine building, plant engineering, on mobile equipment whenever a hose rated up to 40 bar has to reach an existing male thread. Versions in 1.4571 serve chemical processing, water treatment, wet areas; nickel plated brass suits higher demands on the surface finish.
