Ball valves and shut-off valves
Pneumatic rotary actuators turn compressed air into a 90° swing, driving ball valves, butterfly valves, plus cocks that would otherwise be operated by hand. The actuator ships on its own, without any valve: it mates through the mounting pattern F04 to F12 as per ISO 5211 plus a female square of 9 to 22 mm. The range holds 103 items spanning frame sizes 2 through 130.
Torque demand of the valve, the mounting pattern, plus the position wanted when control air fails govern the choice. Double acting units draw compressed air on both rotating strokes, whereas spring to close as well as spring to open types travel into their fail safe position by spring force alone. Versions sealed in FKM cover raised temperatures as well as oily control air.
Establish the break away torque plus the closing torque of the valve first, then pick the frame size from the series 2 to 130. Mounting pattern as well as square size have to agree: an actuator carrying F05 plus square 11 will never sit on a valve prepared to F07 unless a bracket goes in between. Spring return types build longer because of the spring pack, so at equal torque they call for a larger frame size than double acting units.
Automation of existing shut off valves in process, water, environmental plant piping, wherever a hand lever gives way to remote control. Small frame sizes from 2 upwards drive valves in dosing skids plus laboratory rigs, large sizes up to 130 move butterfly valves in ventilation, cooling water, process lines. Spring to close types protect circuits that have to shut down whenever compressed air is lost.
