About Thermowells
Thermowells hold the stem of a bimetal thermometer and separate it from the medium. That way the instrument can be checked or exchanged without draining the line, and the stem stays protected against flow and mechanical load. The group covers a maximum operating pressure of 6 to 25 bar.
What matters when choosing
- Mounting type: screw-in with a G 1/2 male thread, or weld-in via a welding spud. Existing sockets favour the screw-in version, a new installation allows the welded spud.
- Material: copper alloy or CrNi steel 1.4571. The CrNi steel is the choice for aggressive media and the higher pressure range, copper alloy is enough in plain water and air circuits.
- Max. operating pressure: 6 to 25 bar depending on version. The figure is tied to the material, so establish the system pressure first and pick the variant afterwards.
- Insertion length: the features L1 and L2 define how far the well reaches into the line. The stem has to be fully surrounded by the medium, otherwise the thermometer responds too slowly.
- Well diameter and sealing collar diameter: both dimensions have to match the thermometer stem and the sealing face at the measuring point for a tight, play free fit.
