About Sockets, reducing

The reducing sleeve figure 246 combines two thread sizes in one part, a parallel Rp thread inside and a tapered R thread outside. It is screwed into the larger fitting and then takes the smaller line, so no extra intermediate piece is needed. Sizes run from Rp 3/8 up to Rp 3.

What matters when choosing

• Thread 1, the female side: Rp 3/8 to Rp 3. This is where the smaller line is connected.
• Thread 2, the male side: R 1/4 to R 2 1/2. It has to match the female thread of the part the sleeve is screwed into.
• Size step: the documented pairings range from a small step such as Rp 1/2 to R 3/8 up to large ones such as Rp 1 1/2 to R 1. A large step in one part saves components but narrows the bore abruptly.
• Thread standard: all 30 items follow ISO 7-1. The tapered male thread seals in the thread itself and needs an approved sealing compound.
• Finish and material: black malleable cast iron B350-10 design symbol A, hot dip galvanised, with a surface quality to DIN 2444. This governs corrosion protection and mechanical strength in pipework.
