About 3-way ball valves
A 3-way ball valve diverts, mixes or shuts off a medium at a single point in the line, where two separate valves and a tee would otherwise be needed. The series covers DN 5 to 50 mm with pressure ratings from PN 10 to PN 63. The medium can enter through any port, which gives several switching patterns per valve.
What matters when choosing
- Nominal bore from DN 5 to 50 mm follows the required flow and the existing pipework. It also sets the physical size of the valve.
- Threads run from Rp 1/4 to Rp 2 and from G 1/8 female to G 1 1/4. The thread standard is either ISO 7-1 or DIN EN ISO 228-1, and the two are not interchangeable.
- Body materials are nickel-plated brass, nickel-plated brass CW617N, chrome-plated brass and stainless steel 1.4408. Choose stainless where the medium or the surroundings attack brass.
- The seal material is PTFE, RTFE or PTFE combined with FKM. Together with the body it limits the operating temperature, which lies between -20 °C and 180 °C depending on version.
- For the versions with a pneumatic actuator, decide between single acting and double acting. Single acting needs only one control line, double acting is driven pneumatically in both directions.
Typical applications
- Switching between two consumers in compressed air and gas lines
- Diverting cooling water between flow, return and bypass
- Bypass and sampling duty at filter and treatment stations
- Distribution in machine tempering and lubrication circuits
- Automated changeover in process plant using the pneumatic actuator versions
Threads are made to ISO 7-1 or DIN EN ISO 228-1. Bodies come in nickel-plated and chrome-plated brass as well as stainless steel 1.4408, with seals in PTFE, RTFE or PTFE with FKM.
