About Cylinder pressure regulators
A cylinder pressure regulator takes the high filling pressure of a gas cylinder and passes on an adjustable, constant working pressure to the torch or device behind it. Regulation starts at 0 bar, and depending on the version the upper end lies between 1.5 and 25 bar. Two gauges show cylinder content and set working pressure separately.
What matters when choosing
- Gas type and cylinder connection come first. The group covers oxygen, compressed air, nitrogen, carbon dioxide/argon, argon/helium and combustible gas, and each gas has its own cylinder connection.
- Maximum working pressure defines the model. End values start at 1.5 bar for fine control and reach 25 bar where the consumer needs more pressure.
- Outlet threads are G 1/4 male, G 1/4 female and the left-hand versions G 1/4 LH female and G 3/8 LH female. Check which hand of thread the connected fitting requires.
- Material governs load capacity and weight. Pressed brass and brass carry the pressure, steel in black or brass finish is used for housing parts, PA and PA 66 for the light versions.
- Sealing materials are listed as NBR, EPDM and FKM, chosen according to the gas passing through the regulator.

- Oxy-fuel welding and flame cutting, where fuel gas and oxygen are regulated separately.
- Shielded arc welding with carbon dioxide/argon or argon/helium.
- Purging and leak testing of pipework with nitrogen.
- Mobile compressed air supply from a cylinder where no network is available.
- Test benches and laboratory stations drawing a gas at constant pressure.
