Cotter pins, DIN 94

Industrial supplies

Cotter pins to DIN 94 and ISO 1234 lock bolts, clevis pins and shafts against axial movement. This category holds 124 versions with nominal diameters from 1.6 to 6.3 mm and lengths from 12 to 80 mm, made from zinc-plated steel or stainless steel A2.

Selection follows the nominal diameter, which is set by the cross hole in the bolt, and the length, which follows from the thickness of the assembly plus the projection needed to splay the legs. The material follows the ambient conditions: zinc-plated steel for dry duty, stainless steel A2 under corrosive load.

DIN 94 / ISO 1234 - dimensions and shape of the cotter pin are identical under both standards, so the versions stay interchangeable
Nominal diameter 1.6 to 6.3 mm - steps such as 1.6, 3.2, 4.0 and 6.3 mm cover the usual cross holes
Length 12 to 80 mm - several lengths per nominal diameter, for example 12, 20 and 25 mm at 1.6 mm diameter
124 versions - combinations of nominal diameter, length and material held in this single category
Zinc-plated steel and stainless steel A2 - both materials run across the range, for example 4.0 mm diameter at 63 and 80 mm length in stainless steel A2

Cotter pins retain pinned joints in machine building, jig construction, conveyor equipment and agricultural machinery, wherever a joint has to stay releasable without tools. The pin is pushed through the cross hole of the bolt and the legs are then bent apart. Stainless steel A2 versions are used where zinc-plated steel does not survive the environment, for instance outdoors or under wash-down cleaning.
