About Elbows 90° and 45°

Malleable iron elbows turn a threaded pipe run through 90 or 45 degrees. They belong to the classic fitting series used in pipework and are installed with parallel female Rp threads and tapered male R threads to ISO 7-1. The group covers sizes from Rp 1/4 to Rp 3.

What matters when choosing

• Start with the angle. The range holds 90 degree and 45 degree versions, depending on how tightly the line has to change direction.
• The thread pairing follows from that. Thread 1 runs from Rp 1/4 IT to Rp 3 IT and thread 2 from Rp 3/8 IT to Rp 1 1/2 IT or R 3/8 ET to R 1 1/2 ET, which covers female/female and female/male builds.
• Where thread 1 and thread 2 differ in size the elbow doubles as a reducer and saves a separate fitting.
• Surface finish is stated per article. Black and hot-dip galvanised versions are available, the galvanised one being intended for damp installation conditions.
• All threads conform to ISO 7-1. Check this against the existing installation so the seal in the thread flank still works.
