Directional, flow and shut-off valves
Valves
SMC pneumatic directional control valves set the direction and flow of compressed air in cylinders, grippers and handling systems. This section holds around 3,400 articles, organised by switching function (3/2, 5/2, 5/3-way) and actuation (electrically pilot-operated or purely air-piloted), and by design for individual mounting or for manifolds to ISO 5599 and ISO 15407.
3/2-way valves drive single-acting cylinders, blow-off and vacuum functions; 5/2 and 5/3-way valves control double-acting actuators, where the 5/3 mid-position (closed, exhausted or pressurised) allows positioning and stopping. Manual and lever valves plus exhaust silencers complete on-site actuation and noise reduction at the exhaust ports.

How to choose Valves
What matters when choosing: properties, comparison and typical applications.
Switching Functions Compared
| Function | Ports | Typical Use |
|---|---|---|
| 3/2-way | 2 positions, 3 ports | Single-acting cylinders, blow-off, vacuum |
| 5/2-way | 2 positions, 5 ports | Double-acting cylinders, standard control |
| 5/3-way | 3 positions, 5 ports | Positioning, mid-position closed/exhausted/pressurised |
Typical Applications
Assembly and handling systems, packaging machinery, jig and fixture building and process automation. Solenoid valves are driven from a PLC and combined on manifolds with common supply or fieldbus interface; air-piloted valves serve as logic and auxiliary control without electrical components.
