Safety device with coupling, for mounting on the burner, oxygen, output G 1/4, input DN 4 Safety devices of this type have two functions: They stop flashbacks and prevent the flame from spreading back into the hose or to the gas source, thus protecting the cylinder and the operator. Flashbacks occur when, for example, the burner is blocked, the gas flow is too low or incorrectly mixed gas is ignited. The non-return valve ensures that gas can only flow in one direction - from the gas source to the torch - thus preventing one gas (e.g. oxygen) from flowing back into the line of the other gas (e.g. acetylene). If gases mix in the line, there is a risk of explosion.

About Safety devices and quick couplings

Safety devices for oxy-fuel work stop flashbacks and keep the flame from travelling back through the hose to the gas source. All 34 articles in this group are built to EN 561 / ISO 7289 or EN ISO 5175-1 and are dedicated either to fuel gas or to oxygen. Versions with a quick coupling also allow the torch to be changed without tools.

What matters when choosing

• Version: mounting on the pressure reducer, mounting on the torch, fitting into the hose, or mounting between two hoses. The position decides which part of the line is protected, close to the source it protects the cylinder, close to the torch it protects the hose.
• Standard: EN 561 / ISO 7289 for the couplings and EN ISO 5175-1 for the flashback arrestors. Quote the standard of the specific article for plant documentation and inspections.
• Material: brass, CrNi steel, or a combination of both. For oxygen service and permanently damp surroundings the material stated for the individual article matters.
• Max. working pressure: part of the range is rated at 20 bar. The inlet pressure supplied by the reducer has to stay below that figure.
• Connection side: articles for fuel gas use left-hand threads, those for oxygen right-hand threads, so the two cannot be mixed up.
